Scotch Tension Single Drive Spinning Wheel Brake Band Kit For Ashford And Others

Compatible with a wide range of makes and models of single-drive spinning wheels using Scotch Tension, particularly those made by Ashford (including the Ashford e-Spinner 2 but not the Ashford e-Spinner 3 - see my other listing for the brake band kit for this model). Also suitable as a compatible replacement for the single-drive Irish Tension setup on the Ashford Scholar Mk1 spinning wheel (1984-1987) and the Scholar Mk2 (1987-1997). Although these two vintage single drive spinning wheels didn't use Scotch Tension but instead used Irish Tension, which on more recent model wheels normally consists of a strip of leather or similar, Ashford Scholars used a length of line and a spring, hence the suitability of this Scotch Tension brake band kit. Some of my customers even use these kits for applying tension to the bobbins on their lazy kates!

Comprises approximately 100cm of nylon line, a pair of steel springs and a brass-plated screw hook and screw eye. I also provide you with a second, spare line, in case one ever wears out or breaks in the future.

If your existing single-drive, Scotch Tension spinning wheel only has one spring fitted, then upgrading to a two-spring setup should provide a noticeable improvement in both spinning and plying. This is due not only to the improved flexibility of the brake band that a two-spring setup offers compared to a single-spring system, but is also due to the more subtle or softer 'fine-tuning' of the brake band tension that is offered by a two-spring arrangement.

2 x approximately 100cm (1m), 0.5mm gauge, clear, smooth, nylon lines (one as a spare/backup).

A matching pair of hooped-end steel springs.

1 x brass-plated screw hook and 1 x brass-plated screw eye, approximately 19mm and 20mm in length, respectively.
