For Post 1975 Ashford Spinning Wheels Crankshaft Hub Pin And Nail

Direct compatible replacement for all Ashford spinning wheels made after 1975 that use a 'tap-in, tap-out' crankshaft hub pin, for example the Ashford Traditional and Ashford Traveller. These hub pins are 2" (two inches) long and 5/32" (five thirty-second of an inch) in diameter/wide (when compressed inside the crankshaft's hole). Also suitable for a number of other makes and models of spinning wheel, but only if they use a 5/32" diameter/wide hub pin - please made sure that this is the size that you need, before ordering and attempting to fit.

Also supplied is a hardened-steel masonry nail, approximately 89mm long and 3.4mm diameter/wide for tapping out any existing hub pin, and tapping in the new one. Taking great care, use a small hammer, the side of a pair of pliers or similar to do this. With some of the recent model Ashford spinning wheels, this task is quite easy to carry out, as the hub pin is sited on the outside of the hub. On many older Ashford spinning wheels, on the other hand, the hub pin is sited in the centre of the hub (inline with the spokes), and the space available between the top of the hammer and the inside rim of the wheel is somewhat limited.

The hole in the hub will go right through from one side to the other, and there will be a corresponding hole in the metal crankshaft. Obviously, the crankshaft and hub holes will need to be perfectly aligned when (re)fitting the hub pin (which is actually easier to do than it sounds!).
